Demian Maia Week
Demian Maia versus Gabriel Napao at the World Jiu-Jitsu Tournament. At the beginning of the match you can see as Maia defends the guard pass as you saw in the previous video that I posted. Maia looks so comfortable on his back and it seems as though he spends nearly the entire match there working his guard. Maia takes the the back at the end of the match and nearly pulls off a nice collar choke. Look for Maia at UFC 109 as he takes on Dan Miller.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills
This is a great drill, one of the best I have seen for jiu-jitsu. BJ Penn really simplifies bjj here. These are all basic moves and doing this drill will only commit them to your muscle memory. Penn calls it advanced basics, this is great for all those who are starting out in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills
Flexibility, flexibility!! When training jiu-jitsu you will need some kind of flexibility so you do not injure yourself. In Brazilian jiu-jitsu you will find yourself in some crazy positions at times. This short video will help you with your BJJ flexibility. I do some form of stretching every night to make myself more flexible so when I am on the mat I have less of a chance of injuring myself.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills
This week you will be seeing lots of jiu-jitsu videos utilizing drills. Some of the BJJ videos will be solo drills like the one today and there will be videos that you will need a partner. I would use some of the movements to warm up before a jiu-jitsu class. All of the movements will help you on the mat.

Here is another demonstration of the guillotine choke from the guard in jiu-jitsu. Here ther are multiple angles of the choke. Still going to be looking for the way to lock in the guillotine with your hands once you secure the neck. I will be on the look out.

Armbar Drill
This video highlights several variations of the armbar in jiu jitsu and the different transitions from one to the other. I personally like the way they show the armbar drill from all different angles. Helps us all learn and that is why we are all here.

Submissions from the Guard Week
This triangle choke is set up from the spider guard. I have had the opportunity to hit the triangle from the spider guard and is very effective way to set it up. The video then moves on to setting up the triangle choke when your opponent is trying to pass your guard. I own the Demian Maia Science of Jiu-Jitsu and recommend it to anyone. He breaks down jiu jitsu so well.

Collar Choke from the Guard
Never tried this submission from the guard, looks as though it will work. Will test this collar choke out as soon as I can. Love to post these jiu-jitsu techniques for everyone to see, not only am I helping you guys out I am helping myself learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the process.

Armbar from the Guard
This is another beginner move in jiu-jitsu. The armbar is probably the most basic submission but as you get better you want to focus on the finer details of the move. Just like with any move in jiu-jitsu the more involved you get with the intricacies the better you will be at pulling them off when it counts.

Submissions from the Guard Week
This week I will be focusing my attention on getting all of you guys videos on different submissions from the guard. The Kimura is one the basic submissions you will learn when you first start your journey in Jiu-Jitsu. The key on this submission is throwing that leg over the opponents back to hold them down so they can't escape.

Sweeps from the Guard Week
This is a sweep from the spider guard. It's is a more advance. Just don't want to show you guys basic moves. One of my favorite open guard positions is the spider guard it is very effective for sweeps and keeping your opponent on his or her toes.

Sweeps from the Guard Week
This is one of my favorite sweeps from the guard. Its all in the hips and being able to scoot out to the side to get the right position.

Scissors Sweep
This is one of the most basic sweeps and is taught to all beginners in jiu-jitsu. Its tough to get at first and you will get stuck half way through the move at times but keep practicing and you will hit it on people. The best bet is to use it with combinations that usually catches your opponent off guard. Rodrigo Gracie shows us the intricacies of this sweep. You may have seen in a small mma promotion called Pride a few years back. Enjoy!

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
Not only will I be posting videos on technique but I will also bring some of the history of jiu-jitsu to you as well. I am a firm believer that learning about the history of a martial art will help you in your training. Learning about the people before us and their training will help you as you move foward in your pursuit to jiu-jitsu greatness. This video is an ESPN special talking about the effectivness of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Got to love the part with Al Bundy choking someone out.

Passing the Guard Week
Guard passing week continues. Today you get a special three guard passes in one video. As you can see controlling the opponent's gi pants and getting a nice tight grip is essential. I have found in my training that the slightest error in footwork here can get you caught in half guard. You may have improved your position but you want to advance to side control with these passes.

Saulo Ribeiro Opening the Guard
This is great. Saulo Ribero is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt. He is the owner of Jiu-Jitsu University, which is also the name of the book he published. The book helps with many techniques. As for this video Ribeiro shows us how to open the opponents guard. Always helpful before we attempt to pass ones guard.

Passing the Guard
Check out this first video of the week on passing the guard. This guard passing technique is one of my favorites. The explanation is pretty good especially when the brown belt explains the technique in great detail. Try this guard pass you will see that it works. And no I did not spell favorited out.
