Demian Maia Week

Demian Maia versus Gabriel Napao at the World Jiu-Jitsu Tournament. At the beginning of the match you can see as Maia defends the guard pass as you saw in the previous video that I posted. Maia looks so comfortable on his back and it seems as though he spends nearly the entire match there working his guard. Maia takes the the back at the end of the match and nearly pulls off a nice collar choke. Look for Maia at UFC 109 as he takes on Dan Miller.

Demian Maia Week

Demian Maia's Science of Jiu-Jitsu is a great set of instructional videos. In this segment of the video Maia teaches us on how to defend ourselves from someone passing our guard. At the start of the video the theory of keeping your hips in a straight line with your opponent is key. After watching this video my guard game has become so much better. Oh yeas people still pass it but from what it was to what it is now the improvement from this one tip has been great. Maia takes Dan Miller at UFC 109 on February 6 2010.

Demain Maia Week

This is an introduction to our first Jiu-Jitsu instructor and competitor Demain Maia. Maia is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Fabio Gurgel. This is just highlight video of Maia fighting in jiu-jitsu tournaments and in mma fights. Look for Maia on February 6, 2010 as he takes on Dan Miller at UFC 109.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructors

In the upcoming weeks Jiu-Jitsu Educcation is going to focus on the different Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors and fighters. Now you may not see alot of Gracie's in the next few weeks but you will see some of their students who have moved on to become instructors themselves. The next few weeks will be fun here at Jiu-Jitsu Education, I for one get back into my own training after some time off due to an neck injury. But best of all you will get some instructional videos from different styles and you will be able to also see them in action on the mat in jiu-jitsu tournaments or in mmma fights.
I always think that it is best to learn from all different people. Especially now in this day and age when you can have access to many people way of teaching BJJ, why not take advantage of it. This is what Jiu-Jitsu Education is all about. I am here to find some of the best videos out there and help you improve and reach your goals. I am taking the hard work out of it for you by sifting through countless videos that may not be good and putting the best out there for you. Enjoy the next couple of weeks as they will be a great learning experience for both you and I.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills

This is a great drill, one of the best I have seen for jiu-jitsu. BJ Penn really simplifies bjj here. These are all basic moves and doing this drill will only commit them to your muscle memory. Penn calls it advanced basics, this is great for all those who are starting out in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills

Flexibility, flexibility!! When training jiu-jitsu you will need some kind of flexibility so you do not injure yourself. In Brazilian jiu-jitsu you will find yourself in some crazy positions at times. This short video will help you with your BJJ flexibility. I do some form of stretching every night to make myself more flexible so when I am on the mat I have less of a chance of injuring myself.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills

Here is another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu drill. For this jiu-jitsu drill you will need a partner. Shows some good drills for guard passing, footwork, taking the back etc... Good drills for hip mobility and just overall bjj movement patterns. I would add this into a beginners training without a doubt. Hell when I found this I found my wife and started doing the drill. Enjoy the music that comes with it.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Drills

This week you will be seeing lots of jiu-jitsu videos utilizing drills. Some of the BJJ videos will be solo drills like the one today and there will be videos that you will need a partner. I would use some of the movements to warm up before a jiu-jitsu class. All of the movements will help you on the mat.

Guillotine Choke Week

Burton Richardson of JKD Unlimited shows us the head and arm guillotine for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how to maintain your opponents head in the guillotine and not let it slip out for an escape. He goes pretty in depth with this guillotine choke. Renzo Gracie is an expert of the head and arm guillotine. It's what he caught Pat Miletich with in the IFL fight.

Guillotine Choke Week

This is one of the worst Jiu-jitsu guillotine chokes in recent history. Dan Miller, who actually just received his black belt in jiu-jitsu ends the fight in devastating fashion. It may be of interest this was when he was the Pitbulls of the IFL fighting under Renzo Gracie, a master of the guillotine.

Guillotine Choke Week

I have been slaving over the internet to find this clip. No just kidding but here is a clip that will with the grip you need to apply the guillotine choke in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Still looking for more jiu-jitsu clips if anyone out there has really good ones send them my way.

Guillotine Choke Week

Here is another demonstration of the guillotine choke from the guard in jiu-jitsu. Here ther are multiple angles of the choke. Still going to be looking for the way to lock in the guillotine with your hands once you secure the neck. I will be on the look out.

Guillotine Choke Week

This week on Jiu-Jitsu Education we are going to focus on the guillotine choke. To start off I found a great video from the IFL as the famous Renzo Gracie shows us the technique for the guillotine choke. As we all know Renzo is the man when it come to the guillotine choke.

Simplify your Jiu-Jitsu

Many that start their training in jiu-jitsu always feel a bit overwhelmed with all the new moves they are learning. Also many new to the sport find to have some kind of anxiety of going to their class and rolling. These are all concerns for new students in jiu-jitsu.
There is alot to learn when you first start out taking jiu-jitsu. When I started, it was all no gi classes and I would get killed on the mat on a daily basis. I ended up stopping my jiu-jitsu training. A couple of years later I went back to training in jiu-jitsu but with the gi only and I love it.
When I started training again I would simplify the move. When practicing on the mat you should do the same thing. If they teach you an armbar from the mount break the move up into parts as you train it. Now you won't master the move your first night or even after taking a hundred classes. Step by step take each part of the move as you do it and focus on making sure that your positioning is right and that you are following the steps as closely as your teacher was when he or she was teaching the move. This will help you out in the long run as when you begin to roll live these movements will be embedded in your brain and you will be able to control you and your opponents movements.

What is Jiu-Jitsu Education up to?

Recently I have not posted many technique videos. I am in the process of designing a program or system that will help all those who have the opportunity to practice the art of jiu-jitsu learn at a faster pace and achieve more with this great martial art. I hope to be getting this up and running in the near future and will continue to post more technique videos for all to see.
